Multislice CT Coronary Angiography in Evaluation of Coronary Artery Disease
نویسنده
چکیده
The investigation and treatment of coronary disease impose a significant burden on health service resources. Catheter coronary angiography remains the gold standard for the investigation of suspected coronary disease. Given the invasive nature and high costs of invasive coronary angiography, there is an increased interest in noninvasive methods to image the lumen of the coronary arteries. Recent publications of the utility of 64-slice scanners indicate further improvement in both interpretability and diagnostic performance. When referral to catheterization is questionable, CT coronary angiography may identify subjects with normal angiograms and consistently decrease the number of unnecessary invasive procedures. Multislice CT coronary angiography of the clinically relevant coronary segments, as designated by the AHA classification, is now possible. Significant coronary stenoses were detected with the latest 64-slice CT scanner with a sensitivity of 99% and a specificity of 95% compared with conventional invasive diagnostic coronary angiography.

Multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography has been increasingly used in the detection and diagnosis of coronary artery disease because of its rapid technical evolution from the early generation of 4-slice CT scanners to the latest models such as 64-slice, 256-slice and 320-slice CT scanners. Technical developments of multislice CT imaging enable improved diagnostic value in the detection ...

With the advent of multislice CT more than a decade ago, multislice CT angiography has demonstrated a huge potential in the less invasive imaging of cardiovascular disease, especially in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The diagnostic accuracy of multislice CT angiography has been significantly augmented with the rapid technical developments ranging from the initial 4-slice, to the cur...

BACKGROUND It is known that 9% to 31% of women and 4% to 14% of men with acute myocardial infarction have normal coronary arteries or nonsignificant coronary disease at angiography. These patients represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Multislice computed tomography (CT) can noninvasively identify the presence of coronary plaques even in the absence of significant coronary artery ste...

The gold standard for diagnosis of CAD is the conventional coronary angiography, however, it is invasive and may be associated with complications. In addition, it provides little information on the early atherosclerotic wall changes that occurs in the coronary artery disease. Multislice CT coronary angiography has been introduced as a non invasive modality to detect coronary atherosclerosis and...
